Tyreke Evans and "The Shooting"

It has been the talk of the colege recruiting basketball community and of the social problems that seem to plague city kids.

Here is what has hapened. Tyreke Evans, arguably the best college basketball prospect this year and being recruited by Louisville, Memphis, Villanova, Texas and Connecticut, has been considered a witness to the shooting death of 19-year-old Marcus Reason. It seems that Tyreke's cousin allegedly shot Marcus from the back seat of an SUV that Tyreke was driving.
Evans' cousin turned himself into Chester Township authorities on Dec. 22 to face charges of first and third degree murder. Police say that Tyreke drove his cousin away from the scene in his SUV, but it is not believed that he will be charged with a crime. Tyreke only came forward in the case after his SUV was identified by police. His story is that he did not know that his cousin had a gun or that he planned to shoot someone. He started drivign away and heard the shot and then others in the car screamed go, go! So he drove away.

It appears that prosecutors are not planning to file any charges against Tyreke in the matter, and college coaches are still heavily recruiting him. The famiuly is concerned for his safety after the incident and they have hired security guards to protect Tyreke during basketball games.

Scotty Hopson Performance and Recruiting Rumors

In the King of the Bluegrass Classic Louisville Male edged out Scotty Hopson's University Heights team for the crown. The game came down to the final two seconds when senior guard Rodd Lanon made a runner in the lane to seal a 53-51 victory for Louisville Male. Lanon finished with 13 points and 6 assists, with Bryce Mitchell adding 14 points and Dexter Shannon contributed 11 points and 12 rebounds. Scotty Hopson lead University Heights with 19 points and 10 rebounds and was named the tourney MVP.

The recruiting rumors are swirling so take them for what they are worth. It is rumored that Tennessee is leading in the Scotty Hopson sweepstakes and that it woudl take a lot to steer Scotty away from the Vols. Not that this is keeping Texas and Louisville from pushing very hard of late, but they have a lot of room to make up.

The rumors also say that UK's Gillespie has elected to not pursue Hopson due to his reputation for slacking off at times during games. Seems Billy wants all hustlers in his next class. Guess he's tired of watching Crawford take rests while he's supposed to be defending.
